EverQuest Legends - Ogre Paladin Guide

Ogre → Paladin Unlock Guide

via Half-Elf / Wood Elf Loadout Swap

Exploit Basis: Primary Class is race-locked at creation, but the Race-Class Matrix only applies to your starting race. Once a second race is unlocked account-wide, you can swap your character's loadout (race + class selection — EQL is one character per server) to that race and select any Primary Class it supports, including Paladin, which Ogre cannot natively select.

Phase 1: Character Setup

StepDetail
RaceOgre
Starting ClassBeastlord (warder pet makes the 1–10 grind noticeably faster/safer)
Secondary Class (optional)Shaman or Magician — pick Magician if you'd rather lean on its pet instead of the Beastlord's warder
DeityRallos Zek
GoalLevel to 10 as fast as possible, pathing toward Nektulos Forest

🛒 Before leaving Oggok: buy a stack or two of Malachite. You'll need it to summon the Magician's water pet during the guard grind in Phase 2.

Phase 2: Plat Farm — Nektulos Forest Bridge Guards

At level 10, swap loadout to Shaman / Cleric / Magician:

  • Cleric — Lull/Pacify, big heals
  • Shaman — Slow, Root
  • Magician — Water pet, backstab-style damage (requires Malachite to summon — see Phase 1)

Location: the bridge just past the East Commonlands → Nektulos Forest zone line.

Loop:

  1. Lull 2 of the 4 bridge guards.
  2. Go invisible, walk onto the bridge.
  3. Lull a 3rd guard.
  4. Fight and kill the 4th.
  5. Repeat until all 4 are down, then reset (zone/instance) and repeat.

Before selling, swap loadout to Shaman / Bard / Enchanter:

  • Shaman provides a Charisma buff
  • Bard and Enchanter both carry innate Charisma bonuses
  • With these buffs active, each sword sells for 2.9 plat directly to the vendor

Drop / Sell:

  • Each guard has a 100% drop rate on a Bronze Sword.
  • Collect enough swords to hit 34 platinum total (safe buffer for the shopping phase).
  • Sell to the Ogre vendor stationed near the bridge — manually, one at a time, directly through the vendor sell window.

⚠️ Do NOT autosell via the loot dialog. Autosell skips the Charisma-adjusted vendor price and will short you plat. Make sure the Shaman/Bard/Enchanter Charisma buffs are already active before you start selling — don't sell first and swap after.

Phase 3: Illusion Prep for Freeport Access

  1. Travel to North Ro — the entrance to New Sebilis (the Iksar starting zone in EQL) is beside the fishing camp on the east side.
  2. Swap to Rogue, build up Sneak skill. Iksar NPCs will not sell to an Ogre, so you need to Sneak up behind the spell merchant to buy the Human Illusion spell.
  3. Swap your primary loadout class to Enchanter and cast Human Illusion on yourself. This lets you safely do the reputation quests/turn-ins in Freeport without guard aggro.

Phase 4: The Shopping Loop — West Freeport

Phase 5: The Hand-In

  1. Go upstairs in the inn to Pandos Flintside (dwarf) and Lady Shae (high elf).
  2. As long as Human Illusion is active, no Sneak is needed for this part.
  3. Turn in 400 Muffins, 100 at a time, to Pandos Flintside.
  4. Turn in 400 White Wine, 100 at a time, to Lady Shae.
  5. Completing both turn-ins permanently unlocks both the Wood Elf and Half-Elf races for your account's loadouts.

Phase 6: Loadout Swap and Lock In Paladin

  1. Swap your loadout to Wood Elf or Half-Elf, and select Paladin as Primary Class.
  2. Travel to Befallen (south border of West Commonlands) and grind to level 11.
  3. At level 11, the game prompts you to lock in Primary Class + Deity — confirm Paladin is selected, then confirm.

Phase 7: Loadout Swap Back to Ogre

  1. Before leaving Befallen, bind at the entrance (makes it easy to Gate back for future grinding).
  2. Use Origin to return to the elf starting zone.
  3. Run to a zone border with no guards present.
  4. Swap your loadout: race → Ogre, class → Paladin (now unlocked as Primary regardless of Ogre's native matrix, since it's already locked in).
  5. Gate back to Befallen to resume grinding.
