Ogre Paladin Unlock Guide
Also works for Bard, Druid, Ranger & Rogue — any Primary Class Ogre can't natively select
Last Updated: July 19, 2026
Basis
Primary Class is race-locked at creation, but the Race-Class Matrix only applies to your starting race. Once a second race is unlocked account-wide, you can swap your character's loadout (race + class selection — EQL is one character per server) to that race and select any Primary Class it supports. Ogre's native Primary options are Beastlord, Berserker, Shadow Knight, Shaman, and Warrior — unlocking Wood Elf and Half-Elf opens up Bard, Druid, Paladin, Ranger, and Rogue as well. If the race unlock is completed before you lock in your Primary Class/Deity at level 11, you can continue on as your original starting race plus your new Primary Class simply by swapping back through the Loadout Manager.
Newly Available Primary Classes
| Class | Available Via |
|---|---|
| Paladin | Wood Elf or Half-Elf |
| Bard | Wood Elf or Half-Elf |
| Druid | Wood Elf or Half-Elf |
| Ranger | Wood Elf or Half-Elf |
| Rogue | Wood Elf or Half-Elf |
This guide walks through the process using Paladin as the example — swap in whichever of the above you're after at Phase 6.
Big thanks to chazinomaha and tarent for helping figure out pieces of this process. Without Chaz's video and Tarent's assistance when I was live streaming, I would have been lost.

Character Setup
| Step | Detail |
|---|---|
| Race | Ogre |
| Starting Class | Beastlord (warder pet makes the 1–10 grind noticeably faster/safer) |
| Secondary Class (optional) | Shaman or Magician — pick Magician if you'd rather lean on its pet instead of the Beastlord's warder |
| Deity | Rallos Zek |
| Goal | Level to 10 as fast as possible, pathing toward Nektulos Forest |
πΊοΈRoute tip: running from Oggok to Nektulos Forest takes you through The Feerott → Innothule Swamp → South Ro → Oasis of Marr → North Ro. Level a bit through Feerott and Innothule Swamp, then swing by Grobb (southeast border of Innothule Swamp) before continuing north into South Ro. New Sebilis sits on the North Ro coast by the fishing camp, right along this path — bind there on the way through. Once the guard grind in Phase 2 is done and your bags are full of plat, you can Gate straight back to New Sebilis instead of running there, which sets you up for Phase 3.
πMalachite (at Grobb): grab it from Rezslog (Jewelcrafting Supplies) while you're there. Only 6 silver 2 copper each (0.062p), so a full stack of 20 runs about 1.24 plat — no dedicated farming needed, whatever you pick up leveling through Feerott/Innothule covers it. You'll need it to summon the Magician's water pet during the guard grind in Phase 2.
πUse /pick to skip walking (credit: Notaro, BrutallStatic's Discord): /pick works on every zone from your Ogre starting town all the way to Befallen, except three: Feerott, Innothule Swamp, and West Commonlands. Skip it in those — Feerott's /pick drops you outside the Ogre town gates (backwards), Innothule Swamp's just makes the run longer, and West Commonlands puts you back at the same East Commonlands zone line you likely just came from. Everywhere else along the route (Oasis of Marr, North Ro, East Commonlands, etc.), /pick swaps you to a different instance of that zone and drops you at the safe spot, which is usually much closer to the border you're heading toward next — e.g. zoning into Oasis from South Ro and using /pick can drop you right at the North Ro zone line, and in North Ro it can drop you right at the East Commonlands tunnel entrance. Can save a lot of running if enough instances are up.
β οΈ Critical Warning
If you ding level 11 at any point before finishing this process, DO NOT confirm the popup dialog to lock in your Primary Class and Deity. If you accidentally confirm it, you'll have to wipe your character and start the entire process over.

Plat Farm β Nektulos Bridge Guards
Loadout
At level 10, swap loadout to Shaman / Cleric / Magician:
- Shaman — Slow, Root
- Cleric — Lull/Pacify, big heals
- Magician — Water pet, backstab-style damage (requires Malachite — see Phase 1)
Location: the bridge just past the East Commonlands → Nektulos Forest zone line.
The Loop
- Lull 2 of the 4 bridge guards.
- Go invisible, walk onto the bridge.
- Lull a 3rd guard.
- Fight and kill the 4th.
- Repeat until all 4 are down, then reset (zone/instance) and repeat.
β±οΈSpeed up the reset timer by swapping between your personal zone instances and the live instance — each has its own guard spawns, so cycling between them shortens effective downtime.
π₯ΎPatrol guards: a couple of the 4 guards periodically leave their post and patrol into the woods. If one wanders far enough from the bridge, kill it in isolation without pulling the rest.
Before Selling
Swap loadout to Shaman / Bard / Enchanter:
- Shaman provides a Charisma buff
- Bard and Enchanter both carry innate Charisma bonuses
- With these buffs active, each sword sells for 2.9 plat directly to the vendor
Drop / Sell
- Each guard has a 100% drop rate on a Bronze Sword.
- Collect 12 swords — at 2.9 plat each, that's roughly ~35 plat (12 × 2.9 = 34.8), a safe buffer for the shopping phase.
- Sell to the Ogre vendor stationed near the bridge — manually, one at a time, directly through the vendor sell window.
β οΈDo NOT autosell via the loot dialog. Autosell skips the Charisma-adjusted vendor price and will short you plat. Make sure the Shaman/Bard/Enchanter buffs are active before you start selling.

Illusion Prep for Freeport
- Travel to North Ro — the entrance to New Sebilis (the Iksar starting zone) is beside the fishing camp on the east side. If you bound there during your Phase 1 run (see route tip above), Gate here instead of running.
- Swap to Rogue, build up Sneak. Iksar NPCs won't sell to an Ogre, so you need to Sneak up behind the spell merchant to buy the Human Illusion spell.
- Swap your primary loadout class to Enchanter and cast Human Illusion on yourself. This lets you safely run the reputation turn-ins in Freeport without guard aggro.
π₯·Alternative (credit: zaral, BrutallStatic's Discord): instead of running from Nektulos to New Sebilis first and building Sneak on arrival, swap to Shaman / Rogue / Enchanter while still in Nektulos and build Sneak up on the run over to New Sebilis. Gets you to 25 Sneak faster than starting it after you arrive. Enchanter also doesn't need to be your Primary for this — Secondary or Tertiary works fine.

The Shopping Loop β West Freeport
| Buy | Quantity | NPC | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muffins | 400 | Pincia Brownloe | The Brownloe Bakery |
| White Wine | 400 | Drona Whystlethin | Hogcaller's Inn |
5
The Hand-In
- Go upstairs in Hogcaller's Inn to Pandos Flintside (dwarf) and Lady Shae (high elf).
- As long as Human Illusion is active, no Sneak is needed for this part.
- Turn in 400 Muffins, 100 at a time, to Pandos Flintside.
- Turn in 400 White Wine, 100 at a time, to Lady Shae.
- Completing both turn-ins permanently unlocks both the Wood Elf and Half-Elf races for your account's loadouts.
6
Loadout Swap and Lock In Your Primary Class
- Swap your loadout to Wood Elf or Half-Elf, and select Paladin (or Bard, Druid, Ranger, or Rogue, if that's your target) as Primary Class.
- Travel to Befallen (south border of West Commonlands) and grind to level 11.
- At level 11, the game prompts you to lock in Primary Class + Deity — confirm your chosen class is selected, then confirm.
7
Loadout Swap Back to Ogre
- Before leaving Befallen, bind at the entrance (makes it easy to Gate back for future grinding).
- Use Origin to return to the elf starting zone.
- Run to a zone border with no guards present.
- Swap your loadout: race → Ogre, class → your newly locked-in Primary (now unlocked regardless of Ogre's native matrix, since it's already locked in).
- Gate back to Befallen to resume grinding.

TheBigPeezy's Preferred Leveling Method
| Stage | Trio | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Pal / Shm / Wiz | Level to 25 to unlock the Wizard's teleports/rituals — these unlock permanently once obtained, regardless of whether Wizard stays active in your loadout |
| 2 | Pal / Dru / Wiz | Relevel to 25 to unlock the Druid's teleports/rituals — same deal, permanent once obtained |
| Final | Pal / preferred secondary and tertiary | Whatever secondary/tertiary combo you want long-term, leveled the rest of the way to 50 |
Changelog

- Added Last Updated line and this changelog.
- Added tip on using /pick to swap zone instances and skip walking on the Oasis/North Ro/East Commonlands route.

- Updated /pick tip with exceptions: doesn't help in Feerott, Innothule Swamp, or West Commonlands (per Notaro).
Earlier revisions
- Corrected item name to Bronze Sword, adjusted plat farm target to 12 swords (~35 plat), added Beastlord as starting class, clarified turn-in NPCs and race unlocks, added critical level-11 lock-in warning, added Shoutout section, restyled guide layout.
